The Chandler TG2 Dual-Channel Microphone Preamplifier / DI is a recreation of the rare EMI TG12428 preamp used in the late 1960s and early 1970s EMI/Abbey Road recording and mastering consoles.
The Chandler Limited TG2 is a dual mono microphone pre-amplifier and DI unit recreated off of the classic EMI TG12428 pre-amp found in recording and mastering consoles at Abbey Road in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The TG2 features the same discrete transformer balanced amps that are used in the TG series limiter, offering creamy, smooth tones with open and clear top-end. The TG2 conjures warmth tones and a vintage vibe, whilst expanding a beautiful top-end range. The unit also has a small rise in its top-end frequency response and has capacity to produce warmth inducing distortion, which further contribute to its sound.
The other sonic spectrums of the Chandler TG2 boast a round, solid low-end frequency response and a strong and focused mid-range, as well as the clean, open top-end. Overall, this unit offers a distinctly British sounds and is a faithful reproduction of audio tones and timbres associated with music from the 1960s and 1970s eras. This sound can be applied in varying degrees depending on how hard the TG2 is driven, with frequency response relying on gain settings.
In 2014, the Chandler Limited TG2 was also released in a single mono 500-Series module, offering similar sonic attributions and specifications.
The sound of the original TG2 was used on many famous recordings done at Abbey Road including The Beatles "Abbey Road" and Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon." Chandler's version was remade from original design notes and circuit board drawings, provided by Abbey Road and EMI.
