The Ampex AG-440B is a classic 2-track, 1/4"l tape recorder from 1969, boasting an all-american sound.
This is a great little (or not so little) machine that runs 2 track 1/4" at either 7.5 or 15ips, but we use the deck very often to run mixes through simply on input. This is the same type of deck the used to run at the famed RCA Nashville Studio, and even on input brings that wonderful sense memory of those classic recordings.
Don't get the wrong idea! We also run a lot of tape! Just this past summer a client requested we master their album only by running it through tape on our deck, and to use absolutely nothing else. Through manipulting the record and playback calibration, and the print levels, we achieved this for them on 8 of 11 tracks!
