The Studer A807 is a highly versatile analog tape machine renowned for its durability and suitability for a wide variety of music genres. Processing audio with an A807 will impart the sonic benefits of tape with a closer blend of ‘clean’ tones that won’t add too much color or warmth to the audio signal.

The Studer A807 is a highly versatile analog tape machine, originally produced from 1986 to 2000. It is renowned for its durability, being highly configurable for different audio applications and is suitable to use for a wide variety of music genres.

As well as being very robust, the A807 also facilitates very precise control of tape, which made it a workhorse for many studios and radio stations around the world.

The Studer A807 can either run a ¼ inch tape for a two-track machine, or a ½ inch tape for a five-track (four audio + 1 code track) machine, and with speeds speeds ranging from 3.75/7.5/15 and 30 ips (varying per the capacity of the model). These tape machines feature Dolby HX-PRO as standard, which at low tape speeds significantly improves treble dynamic range.

The A807 is fairly neutral in coloration for a tape machine, and is able to preserve the ‘punch’ in an audio signal while imparting the desired sonic properties of tape. Unlike some older models of tape, the A807 is a closer blend of the modern ‘clean’ sounds that we’re used to, making it a popular choice for those wanting to impart sonic characteristics and advantages of tape without over coloring the audio signal.
