Mixing
I mix in a hybrid fashion, utilizing the best of what Pro Tools and an analog mixing board can provide. Every track gets its own channel (if possible) on the Neve Genesys 32 channel board which allows me to use the wonderful Neve EQ and the subgroup/aux sends options. Hardware compressors, delays, eq's etc are also utilized as well as plug-ins from Universal Audio, Slate Digital, Soundtoys, and others. Typically the whole mix is processed through my Smart C1 (SSL style bus compressor) or Neve 33609 as well as my Pultec EQM-1S3 equalizers to really provide a nicely glued mix sound. Finally, the entire mix is captured back to digital via my Burl B2 Bomber ADC, insuring a very musical and almost tape machine like finish to the final mix.Mastering
I keep it pretty simple when it comes to Mastering. I stick with Universal Audio plug-ins 99% of the time. I enjoy using broad strokes of equalization with the Pultec emulation, a wee-bit of compression with their Fairchild 670, a subtle to bold amount of tape machine sound with their amazing Ampex ATR-102 plug-in, and finally their Precision Limiter to catch the peaks and increase the volume a bit further if needed. Most of my volume increase comes from the AT-102 though, unless the music doesn't call for it.There are no reviews here yet!
